New Photos!

Just a quick post to update the website with some new photos! And by “new,” I mean new to me. These are photographs I didn’t know existed and had never seen until this summer.

My parents recently decided to move back home to Chattanooga, Tennessee, and while going through boxes upon boxes of old family photographs I stumbled across an old envelope containing the photos you see below.

I was genuinely shocked to find them. I was fairly certain I had seen just about every photograph ever taken of my grandfather during World War II. Of course, I’m still holding out hope that there are more Signal Corps photographs tucked away in an archive somewhere that simply haven’t been identified yet.

The photographs below are shown exactly as I found them, without any restoration or cleanup. The photos of him standing in a field were taken at his Medal of Honor Ceremony on 18 June 1945 near Dornstadt, Germany. There are actually only 2 photos, but there were 3 copies of the top photo in varying degress of decay, and 2 copies of the photo on the bottom. The photo of him shaking hands with the officer was taken in July 1945 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana as he was making his way home from the European Theater. I’ve restored and cleaned each photo and posted those versions on the WWII Photos page.
